Carleton's Master of Science in Biology is a research-intensive graduate program in which students work closely with a faculty supervisor to design and carry out an original research project in the biological sciences. The program is delivered through the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Biology, a joint institute between Carleton University and the University of Ottawa that is among the largest centres for graduate study and research in biological sciences in Canada, giving students access to a broad range of faculty expertise and research facilities. The program runs full-time over two years, with Fall, Winter, and Summer admission intakes. Students typically complete graduate coursework alongside a thesis based on independent laboratory or field research, culminating in an oral defence. Areas of study span the breadth of biological sciences represented by the Institute's faculty.
