Overview
Natural Sciences is a pre-university Diploma of College Studies (DEC) offered at Cegep de Chicoutimi, with a choice between two profiles: Fundamental and Applied Sciences, and Life and Health Sciences. Coursework spans biology, chemistry, geology, computer science, physics, and mathematics, taught in renovated laboratory facilities, and is designed to build analytical rigour, curiosity, and teamwork across scientific disciplines. The Fundamental and Applied Sciences profile introduces programming, mechanical physics, and differential and integral calculus from the first year, aimed at students drawn to engineering, applied sciences, and computing. The Life and Health Sciences profile explores human body systems and cell biology and introduces biotechnology, aimed at students drawn to health-related fields, with courses such as human anatomy and physiology and organic chemistry that serve as prerequisites for several university health programs. Students can switch profiles during the program if their interests change, and double-DEC combinations with Social Sciences or Visual Arts are available. The program suits students with strong interests in mathematics or the sciences who want to build critical thinking and research skills before continuing into a wide range of university science, health-science, or engineering programs.
