This three-year DEC prepares respiratory therapy technologists to provide cardiorespiratory care and anesthetic assistance to newborns, children, and adults. Students learn emergency intervention for cardiac and respiratory arrest and trauma, treatment of respiratory diseases such as asthma, emphysema, and cystic fibrosis, artificial ventilation and oxygenation techniques, and medication administration by the respiratory route. From the second year, students work in a dedicated respiratory-physiology clinic and complete clinical patient examinations through partnerships with the regional health authority (CIUSSS). Sessions five and six are devoted entirely to a hospital-based clinical internship, combining classroom simulation with real patient care under supervision. Graduates work in hospitals, clinics, and home-care settings assisting physicians and nurses with respiratory diagnosis and treatment. Admission requires meeting healthcare-placement conditions, including proof of primary vaccination, a background check, and a confidentiality agreement prior to clinical stages, reflecting the program's direct patient-contact responsibilities.
