Overview

Visual Arts is a pre-university Diploma of College Studies (DEC) offered at Cegep de Chicoutimi. The curriculum combines practice and theory, teaching visual-art fundamentals through both traditional techniques, such as life drawing, and contemporary tools, including digital imaging, while students create, analyze, and interpret works of art. Over the course of the program, students build a portfolio of their own creative work and, at the end of their studies, present it in an exhibition held at a professional artist-run centre. A course-recognition partnership with the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC) lets students have certain courses recognized toward UQAC programs, and double-DEC combinations with Natural Sciences, Arts, Literature and Communication, or Social Sciences are available. The program suits creative, culturally curious students who want to explore contemporary art practice, develop a personal artistic language, and engage with current issues in the visual-arts world. It is designed as preparation for further study in visual arts, design, or related fields at the university or professional level.
