College of the North Atlantic's Power Engineering Technology program is a two-year diploma delivered on campus at the Corner Brook campus, preparing students for 4th and 3rd Class Power Engineering certification. The curriculum, delivered in modular format across six semesters with an exit option after Year 1, covers the safe operation and maintenance of pumps, gas compressors, generators, motors, boilers, steam turbines, air conditioning systems, heat exchangers, and refrigeration equipment. Progression to Year 2 requires successful completion of Year 1 and 4th Class Power Engineering certification. Students complete a six-week on-the-job training placement and must obtain certifications in Confined Space, Fall Arrest and Protection, Lock-out/Tag-out, Standard First Aid, and WHMIS, along with passing a respirator fit test. Graduates find employment operating and maintaining power engineering systems in municipal, provincial, and federal buildings, health care and educational institutions, and manufacturing, mining, fishery, pulp and paper, and oil and gas facilities across Newfoundland and Labrador.
