Trades - Apprenticeship in Agricultural Equipment Technician

This program prepares apprentices for Red Seal certification as agricultural equipment technicians in New Brunswick. Apprentices learn to set up, maintain, diagnose, and repair the machinery used in farming operations, including tractors, combines, and a wide range of attachments for tillage, seeding, planting, harvesting, spraying, and haying, along with related outdoor power equipment. Training covers both preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of engines, hydraulic systems, electrical circuits, and mechanical drivetrains, much of the diagnostic work taking place directly in the shop or in the field where the equipment is used. As a designated apprenticeship trade, the program combines paid, supervised on-the-job training with periods of in-class technical instruction delivered through New Brunswick's apprenticeship system, of which NBCC is a training provider. Apprentices work under the supervision of a certified journeyperson while progressing toward a New Brunswick Diploma of Apprenticeship and a Certificate of Qualification recognized under the interprovincial Red Seal program. The occupation suits people already working in or seeking entry to agricultural equipment dealerships, farm service departments, and equipment rental and repair businesses who want a nationally recognized trade credential.
