Trades - Apprenticeship in Carpenter

This apprenticeship prepares students for Red Seal certification as carpenters. Training covers the construction, installation, renovation and repair of residential, institutional, commercial and industrial structures built from wood, steel, concrete and other materials, including framing, formwork, finishing and related carpentry techniques used across these building types. Apprentices divide their time between paid, supervised work with a construction employer and blocks of technical training delivered through New Brunswick's apprenticeship system, with NBCC serving as a training provider for the in-class components. Work is carried out under the direction of a certified journeyperson, giving apprentices structured exposure to job-site practices, tools, materials and safety requirements before they take the certification exam. Completion leads to a New Brunswick Diploma of Apprenticeship and a Certificate of Qualification recognized nationally under the interprovincial Red Seal program. The trade is not compulsory in New Brunswick, but Red Seal certification is widely recognized by employers across the country. The program is aimed at people already working for a construction or renovation employer who want to formalize their skills and obtain a portable, nationally recognized carpentry credential.
