Trades - Apprenticeship in Automotive Service Technician

This program leads to Red Seal certification as an automotive service technician, a compulsory trade in New Brunswick, meaning certification is legally required to work unsupervised in the occupation. Apprentices build the knowledge and hands-on ability to perform preventive maintenance, diagnose faults, and repair the full range of light vehicle systems, including gasoline, hybrid, and electric drivetrains. Training addresses engines, vehicle management and electronic control systems, steering, braking, tires and wheels, suspension, electrical systems, advanced driver-assistance systems, heating and air conditioning, restraint systems, and trim and accessories. As a designated apprenticeship trade, the program pairs supervised, paid work in an automotive repair shop with scheduled technical training delivered through the province's apprenticeship system, with NBCC serving as a training provider. Apprentices train under a licensed journeyperson while working toward a New Brunswick Diploma of Apprenticeship and Certificate of Qualification recognized across Canada under the Red Seal program. The program is suited to people already working in vehicle repair shops, dealership service departments, or fleet maintenance who need or want the mandatory trade certification to advance in the occupation.
