Trades - Apprenticeship in Industrial Mechanic (Millwright)

This apprenticeship trains students for Red Seal certification as industrial mechanics, commonly known as millwrights. Apprentices learn to install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, including mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, fuel, lubrication, cooling and exhaust systems, and components such as pumps, fans, tanks, conveyors, presses, generators and hydraulic and pneumatic controls used across manufacturing and processing facilities. The program combines paid, supervised work in a plant or industrial maintenance setting with periods of technical training delivered through New Brunswick's apprenticeship system, with NBCC serving as a training provider for the in-class component. Apprentices work under a certified journeyperson millwright while progressing toward a New Brunswick Diploma of Apprenticeship and a Certificate of Qualification recognized across Canada through the Red Seal program. The trade is not compulsory in New Brunswick, though the credential is widely recognized by industrial employers. It is intended for people already employed in plant maintenance, manufacturing or processing operations who want to formalize their mechanical skills and gain a portable, nationally recognized trade certification.
