Overview

This one-year certificate at New Brunswick Community College is delivered in blended format at the Miramichi, St. Andrews, Woodstock, Moncton and Saint John campuses, with start dates in September 2026 or January 2027 at Saint John. The curriculum covers workplace safety, blueprint reading, direct and alternating current theory, the Canadian Electrical Code, residential and commercial wiring, lighting systems, rigging and hoisting, and trades mathematics, along with fundamental wiring practices, pipe threading and bending, and cable tray installation. A supervised practicum component lets students apply their classroom learning directly in the field. On completion, graduates become registered apprentices who can pursue work as residential, commercial or industrial electricians, with a path toward journeyman status or more specialized positions. The program is aimed at individuals comfortable working with tools and wiring who have good hand-eye coordination and physical fitness for trades work. It suits students seeking a practical entry point into the electrical trade through classroom instruction, hands-on skill-building and a period of supervised on-the-job experience.
