Trades - Apprenticeship in Landscape Horticulturalist

This apprenticeship leads to Red Seal certification as a landscape horticulturist. Apprentices learn to survey and assess sites, interpret landscape designs and plans, and construct and maintain gardens, parks, golf courses and other outdoor environments, along with hard landscape elements such as patios, walkways and walls and components of green infrastructure. Training also covers preparing estimates, advising clients on horticultural and landscape projects, propagating and cultivating plants, and diagnosing and treating injured or diseased trees and plants, as well as snow and ice management and the safe use of tools ranging from hand equipment to heavy machinery. The program combines paid, supervised landscaping work with periods of technical training delivered through New Brunswick's apprenticeship system, with NBCC serving as a training provider. Apprentices work under a certified journeyperson while progressing toward a New Brunswick Diploma of Apprenticeship and a Certificate of Qualification recognized nationally under the Red Seal program. The trade is not compulsory in the province. It suits people already working for a landscaping, grounds-maintenance or horticultural business who want a recognized trade credential in the field.
