Trades - Apprenticeship in Truck and Transport Mechanic

This apprenticeship leads to Red Seal certification as a truck and transport mechanic. Apprentices learn to inspect, diagnose, repair and maintain commercial trucks, buses, emergency vehicles and other road transport vehicles, including those with electric, hybrid or other alternative-fuel drivetrains. Training covers structural, mechanical and electrical systems such as engines, cabs, chassis and frames, brakes, steering, suspension, drivetrain, heating and air conditioning, emissions and fuel systems, and hydraulic systems, along with the electronic controls that increasingly govern these components. The program combines paid, supervised work at a truck dealership, fleet operation or repair shop with periods of technical training delivered through New Brunswick's apprenticeship system, with NBCC providing the classroom component. Apprentices work under a certified journeyperson while progressing toward a New Brunswick Diploma of Apprenticeship and a Certificate of Qualification recognized nationally under the Red Seal program. The trade is not compulsory in New Brunswick, though the credential is widely recognized by commercial transport employers. It suits people already working in truck and heavy vehicle repair who want to formalize their training and gain a nationally recognized certification.
