Power Engineering, 4th Class is a one-year, in-person certificate that trains students to operate and maintain boilers, turbines, pumps, compressors and pressure vessels used across industrial, commercial and institutional facilities. Students gain hands-on experience with low- and high-pressure boilers, pumps, compressors, turbines and water treatment systems, alongside coursework in workplace safety, electricity, instrumentation, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) principles. Training aligns with Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA) standards and prepares graduates to challenge the 4th Class Power Engineering certification exams, an entry-level industry credential with a pathway to further certification at higher class levels. Graduates take on entry-level power engineering roles in hospitals, manufacturing facilities, energy plants and commercial buildings, and can pursue further ABSA certification at higher class levels as their career progresses.
