Pre-Employment Heavy Equipment Technician Certificate

The Pre-Employment Heavy Equipment Technician certificate is a 12-week, in-person program at Portage College's Lac La Biche campus that introduces students to the maintenance and repair of heavy vehicles and industrial equipment. Coursework covers hydraulic systems, electrical systems, brakes, tool use, and workplace safety procedures used in the heavy equipment trade. The program is delivered through hands-on shop instruction and prepares students for entry-level work in the heavy equipment technician field. Graduates who wish to pursue a Red Seal trade certification can continue into a Heavy Equipment Technician apprenticeship by registering with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training. The certificate runs during the winter term at Portage College's Lac La Biche campus.
