BA/BS in Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineering at Queen's University is a Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering program delivered by the Department of Chemical Engineering within Smith Engineering, tracing its origins to one of the first chemical engineering programs established in North America. Students are admitted through Smith Engineering's common first-year curriculum and are guaranteed placement in Chemical Engineering after first year. Coursework spans mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, engineering science, design, and economics, with instruction in designing safe, efficient, sustainable, and economical chemical processes from molecular to macroscopic scales. Students use laboratory experiments, statistical analysis, and computer software for process simulation, analysis, design, and control, supported by hands-on training with pilot-scale process equipment. The program offers options in Chemical Process Engineering and Biochemical Engineering, with elective areas including biochemical, biomedical, environmental, process systems, energy, and materials engineering. A Professional Internship option is available through the Queen's Undergraduate Internship Program, providing a paid 12-16 month industry placement. Graduates are prepared for roles in chemical manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, biomedical devices, and process industries.
