Overview

The Department of Chemistry at Queen's offers graduate M.Sc., M.A.Sc., and Ph.D. programs, with faculty working across a wide range of research areas and over 130 graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research associates in the department. Admission to the M.Sc. or M.A.Sc. requires a four-year honours degree in Chemistry or a related field such as Biochemistry, Chemical Physics, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering, with at least a second-class academic standing; the M.A.Sc. specifically requires an undergraduate degree in Engineering or Applied Science. Graduate students conduct original research under a faculty supervisor, with topics spanning areas such as environmental sensor materials and multi-elemental risk assessment by ICP-MS. Students are supported by the Queen's Graduate Chemistry Society, which organizes social, recreational, and educational activities for graduate members. Minimum GPA: 75.00 / %
Admission Requirements: Admission to the M.Sc. or M.A.Sc. requires a four-year honours degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry or a related field such as Biochemistry, Chemical Physics, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering, with at least a second-class academic standing (B+, 75-79%, GPA 3.3). Previous research experience is not required, though it may be considered when assessing applications. Admission to the M.A.Sc. specifically requires an undergraduate degree in Engineering or Applied Science. The GRE is not required. Applicants whose native language is not English, or who have not completed a university degree taught in English, must meet an English-language proficiency requirement, submitting a TOEFL iBT score of at least 88/120 (with component minimums in writing, speaking, reading, and listening), an IELTS Academic score of at least 7, a PTE Academic score of at least 65, or a CAEL CE score of at least 70, obtained within the last two years.
