Overview
Electrical and Computer Engineering: Innovation Stream (ECEi) is a direct-entry Bachelor of Applied Science option in Queen's Smith Engineering Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Students apply to ECEi directly through OUAC rather than through the common first-year stream, and admission is limited. The first year follows the shared engineering curriculum with an enriched, team-based first-year design course. From second year, students take core electrical and computer engineering courses, including electric circuits, signals and systems, electronics, digital systems, computer architecture, and electromagnetics, alongside a sequence of four required Commerce courses covering business fundamentals, funding new ventures, launching new ventures, and new business development. Completing first year guarantees a place in either the Electrical Engineering Innovation or Computer Engineering Innovation stream for the remaining three years. Students also complete an elective Complementary Studies course in the humanities or social sciences. The program totals four years of full-time study and leads to a Bachelor of Applied Science degree accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board.

Admission Requirements: Queen's Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (Smith Engineering) admits all first-year applicants into one common first-year program under the Ontario Universities' Application Centre code QE; students who complete first year choose their specific plan, including Electrical and Computer Engineering (Innovation Stream), Geological Engineering, Engineering Physics and Mathematics & Engineering. Ontario Secondary School Diploma applicants need six 4U/4M courses: English 4U, Calculus and Vectors 4U, Advanced Functions 4U, Chemistry 4U and Physics 4U are all mandatory prerequisites, with no additional elective courses required beyond these five. Recent admission cycles required a mid-80s overall average for general Smith Engineering entry, rising to the high 80s for the Electrical & Computing Engineering stream and Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering. Applicants submit their OUAC application and official transcripts; non-Canadian-curriculum and non-native-English-speaking applicants must also meet Queen's English Language Proficiency requirement. No supplementary application or portfolio is required for general Engineering entry.
