Overview
The Psychology program at Queen's University, offered through the Faculty of Arts and Science, is housed in the Department of Psychology. Students begin with PSYC 100, an introductory survey covering perception, cognition, learning, motivation, child development, individual differences, social psychology, and behaviour disorders. From there, students choose among several Honours pathways: a Biology and Psychology Specialization (Bachelor of Science, Honours) combining 42 units in PSYC with research opportunities and a thesis option through Biology; Psychology Majors leading to a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) or Bachelor of Science (Honours), consisting of 48 units in PSYC with required core courses in statistics and research methods and optional directed-research courses; and a Psychology Minor. All plans are research-intensive, with faculty active in Brain, Behaviour and Cognitive Science, Developmental, Social, and Clinical Psychology, and undergraduates can join research laboratories as volunteers or for course credit.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Queen's Faculty of Arts and Science admits humanities and social-science applicants under the Arts admission category (QA), which covers Bachelor of Arts (Honours) plans such as Classics, Classical Studies, History, Philosophy, Political Studies, Politics Philosophy and Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Linguistics, Indigenous Studies, Film and Media, the modern-language plans (German Studies, Hispanic Studies, Italian, Spanish and Latin American Studies, World Language Studies, Languages Literatures and Cultures), Jewish Studies, and Environmental Studies (Arts), as well as Economics (listed separately as QAE with identical requirements). Recent admission cycles have required a low-80s overall average for this category. Applicants apply through the OUAC and submit official transcripts; applicants whose first language is not English must also meet Queen's English Language Proficiency requirement.
