This two-year diploma from SAIT's School for Advanced Digital Technology prepares students for production and post-production roles in film and video. Coursework spans scriptwriting and story development, producing and directing, cinematography and sound recording, non-linear editing, sound design and visual effects, and the business side of the industry, including funding, tax credits, distribution and marketing. Across 60 credits, students build technical and creative skills for narrative, documentary and commercial projects and complete a Capstone Project drawing on directing, writing and post-production coursework. An optional cooperative work term is available between the first and second year, offering paid, full-time industry experience. Delivery is in person at SAIT's Main Campus. Students must maintain a semester GPA of at least 2.0 to progress and a cumulative GPA of 2.0 to graduate. The program accepts international applicants, though it does not currently meet Post-Graduation Work Permit eligibility requirements. Graduates may pursue transfer credit toward degrees at the University of Calgary or Royal Roads University. Recent graduate surveys report a 70% employment rate and an average starting salary of $54,020.
