Overview
This three-year diploma prepares electrical engineering technologists to manage the generation, transmission, distribution, protection and sustainable use of electrical energy. The curriculum covers electrical machines, power generation and system design, industrial automation and renewable energy systems, combined with project management skills. Instruction is lab- and project-based, and the program includes three mandatory four-month paid Co-operative Education work terms, with Saskatchewan Polytechnic arranging student interviews with employers. The full program runs 76 weeks across five academic semesters and three co-op terms, delivered full-time on campus with a September intake. Graduates who wish to continue their studies can ladder the diploma into the Bachelor of Applied Management degree at Saskatchewan Polytechnic with two additional years of study, combining technical electrical training with business and management coursework for broader career advancement in the electrical and energy sectors.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires Grade 12 with a minimum of 60% in Pre-Calculus 30 and Physics 30 (the former Saskatchewan Math B30 and C30, both at a minimum of 60%, is also accepted), plus Saskatchewan Polytechnic's institution-wide English Language Requirement (IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with 5.0 per band, TOEFL iBT 81 overall with 19 per skill, PTE Academic 63 overall with 50 per component, Duolingo English Test 110, or CAEL 60 overall with 50 per component). Many employers require a valid driver's licence (Class 5 or equivalent) and a clean driver's abstract for work-term placements, and applicants with an unresolved criminal record or matters before the courts may be unable to complete the mandatory work terms. Admission is First Qualified/First Admitted, with applications opening September 1 annually for the September intake.
