Overview
Instrumentation Engineering Technology is a three-year diploma from Saskatchewan Polytechnic, the only accredited program of its kind in Saskatchewan, offered at the Saskatoon campus over 76 academic weeks across five semesters, integrated with three paid Co-operative Education work terms, starting each September. The curriculum covers process control and industrial automation, electronic, pneumatic and digital systems, data acquisition and analysis, safety and compliance, system troubleshooting and optimization, and instrument measurement, calibration and installation. Classroom theory is supported by extensive lab time and a major third-year applied research project. Admission follows Saskatchewan Polytechnic's First Qualified/First Admitted process, with applications opening September 1 each year. Graduates are prepared for instrumentation and automation roles across process industries.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires Grade 12 with a minimum of 60% in Pre-Calculus 30 and Physics 30 (or, under the previous Saskatchewan curriculum, a minimum of 60% in Math B30 and C30), plus Saskatchewan Polytechnic's English Language Requirement. Applicants without the standard math and science prerequisites may qualify through the ACCUPLACER placement test, with minimum scores of 250 in Arithmetic, 240 in Advanced Algebra and Functions, 256 in Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra and Statistics, 250 in Reading and 245 in Writing, or through 15 approved post-secondary credits. Admission follows the First Qualified/First Admitted process, with applications opening September 1 each year.
