Liberal Studies: Master of Arts (MA)

Admission Requirements: Graduate Liberal Studies does not publish a minimum GPA or English-test score on its own admissions pages; instead, admission is competitive, with roughly 20 students admitted per year, based on a full application: an online application form, a non-refundable CAD 90 fee, a three-to-four-page essay explaining the applicant's interest in interdisciplinary graduate study and the qualities and experience they bring, a writing sample such as a course paper, article or journal entry, official transcripts sent directly from every post-secondary institution other than SFU, and three letters of recommendation submitted directly by the referees. Shortlisted candidates are contacted after the deadline for an interview, and the program states plainly that not all applicants are interviewed and not all interviewees are admitted. Applicants should expect the Fall intake to be the standard entry point, based on the program's published Fall 2026 cohort cycle.
