This 120-credit Bachelor of Education in Teaching English as a Second Language trains professional, competent, engaged, and culturally literate teachers specializing in English-language instruction, developed in accordance with Quebec's Référentiel de compétences professionnelles de la profession enseignante. Graduates are prepared to act, individually or collaboratively, with elementary and secondary students, their professional community, and the wider community, in the situations ESL teachers typically encounter when entering the profession: delivering in-person or remote instruction adapted to students' varied needs and grade levels through flexible, inclusive, differentiated, and culturally appropriate teaching, learning, and assessment practices grounded in disciplinary, educational-science, professional, and experiential knowledge; using digital technology critically and appropriately; building an inclusive pedagogical relationship with the class group; collaborating within and across professions; and responding to unplanned events in the school environment. The program also develops reflective analysis of professional practice and contribution to the professional community. Graduates must complete a request for authorization to teach, including a declaration regarding judicial background, to receive the teaching licence issued by Quebec's Ministry of Education. Admission is in the fall term, full-time, on the Sherbrooke campus.
