The Certificate in Secondary-Level Teaching Support is a 30-credit UQAT certificate, offered jointly with UQTR, UQAC, UQO, and Université Téluq, that prepares substitute teachers to work with secondary-level students. It gives students foundational knowledge of current issues in pedagogical reform and practical tools for acting effectively in a professional teaching role. Some courses are drawn from UQAT's Bachelor's in Secondary Education, though most were developed specifically for this certificate; students who later gain admission to that bachelor's programme may have completed credits recognized under applicable equivalences. Six required courses cover introduction to the teaching profession, assessment of learning, classroom-management strategies, adaptation difficulties, adolescent and adult development, and French grammar. Students then complete 12 elective credits chosen from subject-specific concentrations in French, mathematics, or science and technology, or from general courses on the organization of education in Quebec, pedagogical trends, or cognitive-efficiency skills. Most courses in the programme are available at a distance.
