Genome Biology is a Major program in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto St. George campus, jointly offered by the Departments of Cell & Systems Biology, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, and Molecular Genetics, and administered through Cell & Systems Biology. The program gives conceptual training in molecular biology, bioinformatics, and evolutionary genetics alongside practical laboratory training, preparing students to work with genomic data across biological disciplines. It is an open-enrolment program: a student who has completed 4.0 credits may enrol and go on to complete the program's 8.0 credits. Students may apply to the Arts & Science Internship Program (ASIP) work-placement stream after Year 1 or Year 2, and those completing designated research courses are encouraged to undertake a genomics-related research project. Admission to the Faculty's Life Sciences admission category requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six Grade 12 U/M-level courses, including English, Biology, Calculus & Vectors, and Chemistry.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry to the Faculty of Arts & Science Life Sciences admission category requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six Grade 12 U/M-level courses, including English (ENG4U/EAE4U), Biology (SBI4U), Calculus & Vectors (MCV4U), and Chemistry (SCH4U); the co-op component of Grade 12 courses is not used for admission. Genome Biology itself is an open-enrolment Major: a student who has completed 4.0 credits, including BIO120H1, BIO130H1, and CHM135H1/CHM136H1 (or CHM151Y1), may enrol.
