Overview

Music is a Major program offered jointly by the Faculty of Arts & Science and the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto St. George campus, leading to an Honours Bachelor of Arts. The program requires 7.0 credits, including at least 2.0 credits at the 300-level or above with 0.5 credit at the 400-level, and is offered as a Research Stream or a Creative Practice Stream. The Research Stream builds on Western music theory, history, and analysis; the Creative Practice Stream centres on composition or performance. Enrolment requires students to have completed at least 4.0 credits and pass a short admissions test on the rudiments of Western music theory; Creative Practice Stream applicants additionally submit a performance video or a portfolio of creative work. All applicants must pass an interview, held annually in April and May, to enrol in the program. Students who also want structured ensemble performance training can combine the Major with the Ensemble Option, which adds an additional audition-interview and one extra credit.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six subjects at the 4U/M level, including English (ENG4U/EAE4U); the co-op component of Grade 12 courses is not used for admission.
