Overview
Early Childhood Education (322.A0) is a three-year, full-time career Diploma of Collegial Studies at Vanier College preparing students to work with children from birth to age 12. The curriculum covers child development across cognitive and emotional dimensions, teaching methods suited to different age groups, curriculum design, and health, safety, and wellness protocols appropriate to a classroom setting. Three dedicated fieldwork courses give students direct, supervised experience observing and interacting with children, and the department runs an on-campus Lab Nursery where students can analyze real educator-child interactions as part of their training. Advanced-standing agreements with universities and international exchange opportunities are also available to students who want to continue their studies afterward. Admission asks for a letter of intent describing any relevant experience with children, may include an interview, and requires a criminal background check given the nature of the work. The program suits students aiming at roles in daycares, preschools, CPEs, and after-school programs, as well as those planning eventually to pursue university study in a child-related field.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Early Childhood Education (322.A0) states no specific course or grade prerequisite beyond Vanier's college-wide Quebec secondary-school baseline (DES/DVS, Secondary 5 language courses, Secondary 4 mathematics, science and history). The programme itself asks for a letter of intent describing relevant experience with children, a possible interview, and a criminal background check once admitted. No IELTS/TOEFL-style English score is required for admission: Vanier's admissions pages confirm English-proficiency testing is no longer an admission requirement, while a CEFR B2 French test (TCF, DELF, DALF or TEF) is required only of out-of-province or international applicants who did not complete Quebec secondary schooling.

SRAM has not yet posted Fall 2027 domestic dates. Internationally, SRAM's Fall 2027 window runs 15 March 2026 to 14 March 2027; its next window (Winter 2028) runs 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2027.
