Overview
Science, Technology and Society (ST&S) studies the relationship between science and society, combining STEM knowledge with tools from the humanities to address societal issues. York is the only Canadian university offering ST&S within a Faculty of Science. The program is available as a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science, with three minor options: Life Sciences and Society, Technology Innovation and Society, and Earth Sustainability and Society. Admission from Ontario secondary school requires English for the BA route, or English, mathematics, and a laboratory science for the BSc route, plus additional academic courses, with an admission average in the mid-70s. Intake is offered in the fall, winter, and summer terms, with full-time and part-time study available, and graduates are prepared for careers and further study spanning science policy, research, communication, and technology-related fields.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: For the BA, Ontario Secondary School Diploma holders need ENG4U plus five additional 4U or M courses; for the BSc, ENG4U, MHF4U, and one of SBI4U, SCH4U, or SPH4U plus three additional 4U or M courses are required. Both routes target an admission average in the mid-70s, with a final average of 70% required to maintain the offer; International Baccalaureate, GCE, and other international curricula have corresponding mathematics and science prerequisites.
