BA/BS in Music Therapy at Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg, Canada is a bachelor's degree in Music programme. The programme runs for 4 years. Tuition for international students is CAD 392 per credit (CAD 223 per credit for local students).
This Bachelor of Music Therapy trains students to use music therapeutically in clinical settings, combining study of human development, mental health, neuroscience, and counselling with musicianship training in voice, guitar, piano, percussion, improvisation, and songwriting for therapeutic use. The program is available as a standard four-year bachelor's pathway or as an after-degree stream for students who already hold a music degree. Clinical training is built in from early in the program rather than concentrated at the end: students complete three supervised practicum placements over the course of their studies, followed by a full-time, 1,000-hour internship before graduation, working in settings such as hospitals, schools, long-term care facilities, mental health programs, and developmental-services organizations. Coursework covers conducting assessments, writing treatment plans, and evaluating therapeutic outcomes, delivered through a small-cohort model that the university describes as allowing close feedback and mentorship. The program is accredited by the Canadian Association of Music Therapists and prepares graduates to pursue the Music Therapist Accredited (MTA) certification through that association. Based at CMU's Winnipeg campus, it suits students who want to combine musical skill with applied clinical training aimed specifically at therapeutic practice rather than performance or teaching careers.
