Diploma in Soins infirmiers

Soins infirmiers is a technical DEC (180.A0) at Cégep André-Laurendeau preparing students for professional nursing practice. Coursework builds skills in assessing physical and mental health, applying an individualized clinical approach that respects patient rights and values, communicating professionally with patients, and forming clinical judgment grounded in scientific and disciplinary knowledge and professional standards. Students complete a clinical placement every session in hospitals in the Montreal region, a community placement that includes participation in vaccination clinics, and a placement at the college's own Clinique santé run by the nursing department. Learning uses high-fidelity simulation mannequins, a laboratory modelled on a hospital setting, and nursing-technician staff who support skills practice. Students may apply to a special cohort trained at Hôpital de Verdun, and may take part in an international or Indigenous-community humanitarian placement in the final year. Graduates work in CISSS and CIUSSS networks, hospitals, long-term care centres, CLSCs, rehabilitation centres, private clinics, pharmaceutical companies, private nursing agencies, and community organizations. The program is a first professional qualification; graduates who want to teach, move into specialized practice, or take on management roles can continue to university, including a DEC-BAC pathway with Université de Montréal or other Quebec universities leading to a bachelor's in nursing in two years. The program suits students drawn to hands-on patient care and clinical reasoning.
