Overview

Soins infirmiers pour auxiliaires is a technical DEC (180.B0) at Cégep André-Laurendeau designed as a nursing pathway for students who already hold a DEP in health-care assistance (auxiliary nursing) or an equivalent secondary science background, letting them build on that training toward becoming a registered nurse. The program develops skills in assessing physical and mental health, applying an individualized clinical approach, communicating professionally with patients, exercising clinical judgment based on scientific knowledge and professional standards, and working with autonomy, responsibility, and versatility. Classes run three days a week, reflecting a schedule designed for students balancing other commitments. Teaching emphasizes clinical judgment through a simulated hospital laboratory, high-fidelity simulation mannequins, and support from nursing-technician lab staff, along with placements at the college's own Clinique santé run by the nursing department and a partnership with the CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l'Île-de-Montréal. Graduates work across the CISSS and CIUSSS networks, hospitals, long-term care centres, CLSCs, rehabilitation centres, private clinics, pharmaceutical companies, private nursing agencies, and community organizations. The credential is a first professional qualification, with a DEC-BAC pathway available to complete a bachelor's in nursing at Université de Montréal or other Quebec universities in two years. It suits health-care assistants seeking to advance into full nursing practice.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Prerequisites (préalables), exactly as published on the program's own page: DES + Science et technologie de l'environnement (STE) 4e, or ATS + SE 4e + Chimie 5e + a DEP in Assistance à la santé et aux soins infirmiers (SASI); alternatively DES + Sciences physiques 436 + Chimie 534 + the same DEP (SASI). A remedial STE-4e course is offered at the college for Tremplin DEC students who need it. No minimum grade, interview, portfolio, or language test beyond the general Quebec-college process is stated on the program page. Admission follows the college's general process: apply online through the Service régional d'admission du Montréal métropolitain (SRAM) at admission.sram.qc.ca, which handles admission for every Montreal-area Cégep, with the college making the final decision. First-round deadlines are 1 March for Fall (applications open mid-January) and 1 November for Winter (applications open mid-September); where more qualified applicants apply than there are seats, the Cote R (R-score), based on cumulative average, ministerial-exam results and program prerequisites, ranks candidates.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through SRAM: Fall 2027 entry opens mid-January 2027 with a first-round deadline of 1 March 2027; Winter 2027 entry opens mid-September 2026 (SRAM: 15 September 2026) with a deadline of 1 November 2026. International applicants also use SRAM: the Fall 2027 deadline is 14 March 2027; the Winter 2027 international window already closed 31 May 2026, so the live one is Winter 2028 entry, closing 31 May 2027. Only a handful of technical programmes (Soins infirmiers, Techniques d'éducation à l'enfance, Techniques de travail social, Gestion des opérations et de la chaîne logistique, and one more) admit international students. Admission is not rolling beyond SRAM's rounds. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
