This three-year DEC program trains students to plan, organize, and lead recreational and leisure activities, including large-scale community events. Coursework combines project-based learning with the development of leadership, teamwork, and intervention skills needed to work with diverse groups in recreation settings. Students complete three supervised field placements over the program, progressing from awareness and animation to direct intervention. The program is delivered through interactive virtual classrooms in partnership with Cégep de Rivière-du-Loup: general education courses are taken on campus at Cégep de Chicoutimi, while program-specific courses are taught remotely by Rivière-du-Loup instructors, with students from both colleges forming a single cohort. Graduates receive a Diplôme d'études collégiales (DEC) and are prepared for roles in municipal recreation departments, community organizations, camps, and leisure or event-management settings. A DEC-BAC pathway allows graduates to continue directly into a related university bachelor's program. Instruction is in French.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires meeting Cégep de Chicoutimi's general DEC admission conditions: applicants must hold a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) with the required secondary-level course units, or a Diplôme d'études professionnelles (DEP) that includes the required secondary-level language and mathematics courses. Applicants without a DES or DEP may be admitted if the Cégep considers their prior training equivalent, or if they have sufficient training and experience and have been out of full-time study for at least 36 months. No further program-specific prerequisites are stated beyond the general conditions. Applications are submitted through the regional admission service (SRASL).
