Fanshawe College's Truck and Coach Technician programme is a block release apprenticeship for the Truck and Coach Technician (310T) trade, leading to an Ontario College Certificate. Apprentices learn to troubleshoot and repair engines, power trains, ignition and electrical systems and other components of trucks, buses and coaches, combining paid, on-the-job training with a sponsoring employer with periods of in-class instruction. In the block release format, apprentices attend Fanshawe full-time for a set number of weeks and then return to the workplace to apply what they have learned, rather than following continuous academic semesters. Classroom blocks cover the trade theory and applied skills required to progress through the apprenticeship and are scheduled around the employer-sponsored, on-the-job portion of the training, which makes up the majority of the programme. Admission, sponsorship and progression through the apprenticeship are administered through Skilled Trades Ontario's registration system rather than Fanshawe's standard academic application process.
