Program details
Overview
Lakehead University's Environmental Sustainability program leads to an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science over four years at the Orillia campus, described as North America's first LEED-certified campus for environmental sustainability. Coursework combines core environmental sustainability content with biology, environmental chemistry, environmental economics, geography, geology, and natural resource management, building communication and problem-solving skills alongside hands-on research opportunities on the Orillia campus. The program holds national accreditation from the Canadian Environmental Accreditation Commission (CEAC). Students can pursue a specialization in Environmental Biotechnology, a concurrent education (Primary/Junior) option that leads toward a teaching qualification, or an optional co-operative education stream with paid work terms. A relatively small department gives students close contact with faculty throughout the degree. The program suits students seeking an accredited applied-science sustainability credential in a close-knit, faculty-supported setting.
