The Faculty Program in Music: Jazz at McGill's Schulich School of Music is designed for students trained as jazz musicians who want a course of study not covered by the school's established major programs, including combining jazz studies with other disciplines. After completing required courses in music theory and history, performance, jazz musicianship, professional training, and jazz improvisation, students work with a staff adviser to design an individualized program, incorporating courses from other faculties as desired. Sample coursework includes Jazz Materials, Jazz Keyboard Proficiency, Jazz Ear Training, and BMus Practical Lessons. Complementary minors are offered in music education, conducting, and the musical applications of technology and science. Related majors include Jazz Performance, the general Faculty Program, and BA Music. Graduates pursue careers as jazz performers, composers, conductors, music theorists, and music journalists. Applicants apply directly to the Schulich School of Music.
