The Early Music (Voice) program within McGill's Schulich School of Music trains students in historical vocal performance practice, combining individual voice lessons with ensemble training in early music. Coursework covers Western musical traditions, opera studio, and specialized ensembles such as Cappella Antica and jazz vocal workshop, alongside music theory, history, and professional skills. Students draw on the university's collection of period instruments, including harpsichords, organs, and historical string and wind instruments, and take part in workshops, master classes, and guest lectures exploring historical approaches to performance. Complementary minors are available in music conducting, composition, theory, and history. Graduates pursue careers as performers, songwriters, music theorists, journalists, and producers, or combine singing with other music-related work. The program is one of several music performance options offered through the Schulich School of Music, alongside related majors in Music Performance: Voice, Faculty Program in Music, and Music Composition. Applicants apply directly to the Schulich School of Music.
