MA/MS in Performance: Opera and Voice (M.Mus.)

The Master of Music (M.Mus.) in Performance: Opera and Voice is a thesis-based program offered by the Schulich School of Music. It combines vocal performance training with coursework in pedagogy, performance practice, and vocal wellness, preparing students for further study or professional careers in opera and voice. Students take part in three staged opera productions each year, including one Early Music opera performed with period instruments, alongside studio concerts, oratorios, Lieder classes, choral and chamber ensembles, and master classes. Voice faculty, coaches, stage directors, and set designers on the program have worked with opera companies and festivals internationally. The Schulich School of Music houses performance spaces, research and production laboratories, two music libraries, and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT). Admission requires an eligible bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and English-language proficiency. The program admits students in the Fall term, with an application deadline of December 1 for both international and domestic applicants.
