This apprenticeship leads to Red Seal certification as an instrumentation and control technician. Apprentices learn to install, calibrate, maintain and service the instruments and control systems used to measure and regulate industrial processes, along with the monitoring, safety and communications systems that support them. Training builds an understanding of how plant systems and processes interact, preparing apprentices to work across a facility's full range of measurement and control equipment rather than a single piece of machinery. The program combines paid, supervised employment in an industrial or process facility with periods of technical instruction delivered through New Brunswick's apprenticeship system, with NBCC providing the classroom component. Apprentices train under a certified journeyperson while working toward a New Brunswick Diploma of Apprenticeship and a Certificate of Qualification recognized nationally under the Red Seal program. The occupation is not a compulsory trade in New Brunswick, but the certification is recognized by employers across process, manufacturing and utility sectors. It suits people already working in plant instrumentation or process control roles who want to formalize their training and gain a recognized trade credential.
