This program awards a Bachelor in Music through a 90-credit, full-time curriculum completed over three years at the University of Sherbrooke's main campus, with admission in the fall and winter terms. Students choose among a composition and music-for-image stream, an interpretation and musical creation stream, or a personalized stream. The core curriculum covers tonal music components and analysis, repertoire knowledge, and ear training, building into stream-specific coursework in composition, performance, or an individualized combination of pedagogical activities. Admission requires a DEC in Music or training judged equivalent for the chosen stream, along with a stream-specific audition or portfolio review. The program suits students seeking specialized training in composition, performance, or a self-directed combination of musical disciplines, with the option to focus on instrumental practice within the personalized stream.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission follows Universite de Sherbrooke's general first-cycle admission condition set out in the Reglement des etudes. All applicants must hold a DEC in Music or training judged equivalent for the chosen stream. The composition and music-for-image stream requires a portfolio, qualifying theory exams, and a short interview; the interpretation and musical creation stream requires a passing instrumental or vocal audition plus qualifying theory exams; the personalized stream requires only the qualifying theory exams, with an audition required solely for students wishing to enrol in the Instrumental Practice course block. All candidates must show a very good knowledge of French, either through an exemption or by reaching CEFR level B2 (score of at least 400 out of 699) across the four fundamental competencies. Students in the composition or interpretation streams must pass MUC111 (Music Integration Project I) by the end of their first year or follow departmental remediation rules.
