Overview
The Baccalauréat en service social is a 90-credit bachelor's degree at Université de Sherbrooke's Faculté des lettres et sciences humaines, leading to the degree of Bachelière or bachelier en service social. The programme trains social workers to intervene competently with individuals, families, groups, and communities, developing a socially grounded analysis of problems alongside practical intervention skills. Students learn the social intervention process and build capacity in evaluation, ethics, and collaboration with formal and informal networks, working from principles of equity, social justice, and self-determination. Graduates are prepared to take on intervention and organizational roles across a range of practice settings, to contribute to the analysis and development of social work practice, or to pursue graduate studies in related professional or scientific fields. The programme also gives access to an integrated bachelor's-master's pathway with the Maîtrise en service social, subject to separate eligibility conditions. It runs under the regular, full-time study regime, with admission at the Fall term only, at the Sherbrooke main campus.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must meet Université de Sherbrooke's general admission condition for 1st-cycle (undergraduate) programmes. All admitted students must demonstrate a strong command of French, either through an exemption or by reaching level C1 (a score of 500/699 or higher across all four core skills: listening comprehension, reading comprehension, oral production, and written production) on a test recognized by the university. Selection is competitive, following a selection process and application categories set by the department. The programme runs under the regular, full-time study regime, with admission at the Fall term only.
