Overview
The Master's in Contemporary Religious Studies (Maitrise en etudes du religieux contemporain) is a 45-credit graduate program at Universite de Sherbrooke, delivered on the Sherbrooke and Longueuil campuses and at a distance, with three streams: a research stream, a final-project stream, and a spiritual-care internship stream. All streams share a 9-credit core on contemporary religious discourse and identities, religious-identity formation, and spiritual experience. The research stream (24 mandatory + 12 elective credits) trains students to produce critical, personal research through a methodology course and an 18-credit thesis. The final-project stream (18 mandatory + 18 elective credits) culminates in a 9-credit final project such as an essay or portfolio. The spiritual-care internship stream prepares students to work as spiritual-care practitioners, requiring a selection interview and specified coursework before beginning their internship. The program examines religious pluralism and the formation of religious identities from anthropological, sociological and theological perspectives, and is offered full-time or part-time, admitting students at the fall, winter and summer terms.

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in religious studies or theology, a bachelor's degree in the humanities with a minor in religious studies, or have preparation deemed satisfactory based on acquired knowledge or relevant experience, with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.7 on a 4.3 scale or an equivalent academic record. Students in the spiritual-care internship stream must pass a selection interview and complete specified coursework (THP704 or THP707) before beginning their internship. Required documents include official transcripts and diplomas, two appraisal reports on the standard form, and a letter of motivation.
