This program leads to a Master of Science in Physiology, a 45-credit, full-time thesis-based degree offered at the University of Sherbrooke's health campus in Sherbrooke, with admission in the fall, winter, and summer terms. It offers a regular pathway plus optional specializations in biophysics or endocrinology. All pathways share a 35-credit common core — a systems physiology course, a one-credit research seminar, a 22-credit thesis (mémoire), and a 10-credit research activity — with the endocrinology and biophysics pathways each adding a 2-credit mandatory course and 8 option credits, and the regular pathway adding 10 option credits, drawn from courses such as functional neuroanatomy, neurophysiopathology, membrane and cellular physiology, cellular and molecular endocrinology, hypertension and hormones, and biostatistics application workshops. The program builds applied research knowledge and scientific rigor in physiology, biophysics, or endocrinology, preparing graduates for positions in academia, industry, or teaching, or for doctoral studies. It includes an integrated bachelor's-master's pathway from the university's Bachelor of Pharmacology and Bachelor of Health Biochemistry programs. Admission requires an undergraduate degree in biology, biophysics, chemistry, chemical, electrical, or mechanical engineering, medicine, or physics, or equivalent preparation, along with a confirmed research supervisor.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:2.70 / 4.3
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree in biology, biophysics, chemistry, chemical, electrical, or mechanical engineering, medicine, or physics, or demonstrate preparation judged satisfactory, and must have secured the agreement of a faculty member qualified to supervise their research before submitting an application. A minimum cumulative average of 2.7 on a 4.3 scale is required, or equivalent academic results; candidates with an average between 2.38 and 2.7 may exceptionally be admitted but will be required to complete at least 2 additional credits of coursework, each passed with a minimum grade of 2.7/4.3. Students entering through the integrated pathway from the Bachelor of Pharmacology must hold a cumulative average of at least 3.5/4.3 after their fifth semester and have completed 82 credits before the sixth semester; those from the Bachelor of Health Biochemistry must hold the same 3.5/4.3 average after their fifth semester and have completed 75 credits before the sixth semester. Candidates interested in an integrated pathway should consult the program's administration to confirm eligibility.
