This master's program in biology comprises 45 credits, delivered full-time on the Sherbrooke main campus, under regular or co-op study regimes, with fall, winter and summer admission. It offers three tracks leading to two degrees: a research track and a coursework track in applied omics sciences, both leading to a Maitre es sciences, and a life sciences and law track leading to a Maitre en sciences de la vie et droit combined with the law bachelor's program. The research track, also accessible through an integrated bachelor's-to-master's pathway, deepens knowledge in molecular and cellular biology, microbiology, ecology or bioinformatics, and provides practical research training within a research group, developing experimental rigour, scientific writing and oral or poster presentation skills. The applied omics sciences track combines theory and practice in omics technologies, developing responsible professional conduct, experiment design, protocol optimization and quality assurance, and skills with bioinformatics tools.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:3.00 / 4.3
Admission Requirements: For the research track, applicants must hold a bachelor's (1st cycle) degree in biochemistry, bioinformatics or biological sciences, or the equivalent, with a cumulative average of at least 3.0 on a 4.3-point scale, or equivalent academic standing; candidates admitted through the integrated pathway must be enrolled full-time in the bachelor's program in biology, molecular and cellular biology, ecology or microbiology, and must have completed at least 74 credits with a cumulative average of at least 3.7/4.3. Meeting the stated conditions does not guarantee admission, as each application is reviewed individually by the departmental graduate studies committee, and applicants must secure a qualified faculty supervisor before applying. For the applied omics sciences track, applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics or biological sciences, or the equivalent. For the life sciences and law track, applicants must be enrolled full-time in the law bachelor's program with the life sciences pathway.
