This Lithuanian Philology programme builds thorough, systematic knowledge of Lithuanian studies past and present, training students to analyse and evaluate the language and literature within a broader linguistic, literary and cultural context. The major field covers 145 credits across Lithuanian linguistics, literature and folklore, including educational and professional practice and a final thesis, with internships available in translation, corpus-linguistics research or language teaching. Eighty credits of free choice let students add a minor field or a special track in Estonian, Latvian, Greek or Turkish, each covering seventy credits of that language's literature and culture. Teaching combines lectures with small seminars of about sixteen students using brainstorming and group discussion, and assessment is continuous, built from essays, research papers, presentations and the final thesis defence. Graduates can work in publishing, media, translation and educational institutions, or continue into master's study in the humanities or social sciences.
