Overview
This AEC combines the study of musical composition with audio-production techniques used in film, television, advertising, web, and video-game work. Students train as sound designers and composers, covering the full production chain from sound capture through 5.1 surround postproduction and sound design, while also building entrepreneurial skills in self-production, management, and accounting. The curriculum uses industry-standard software including Wwise, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Nuendo, and Komplete, and gives access to two recording studios, three surround-mix studios, and a Foley studio. The programme runs 9 months over 2 sessions (810 hours), starts in the fall, and is delivered online or in person depending on the course, in cohorts of 13 students. Admission requires a two-part process: a portfolio with at least two original compositions and a classification test covering music theory, technical knowledge, and an interview.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must have training deemed sufficient by the college, plus one of: an interruption of full-time studies (or full-time post-secondary study) for at least two consecutive sessions or a school year, an agreement between the college and an employer or a government programme, or a Diplome d'etudes professionnelles (DEP). Candidates must also pass a two-part admission process: a portfolio (resume, cover letter, and at least two compositions) and a classification test combining a music-theory/technical questionnaire with an interview.
