Overview
Soins infirmiers is a three-year technical DEC that trains nursing professionals to intervene autonomously, safely and responsibly with patients of any age and their families, in situations requiring either short- or long-term nursing care. The program's themes cover medicine, surgery, pediatrics, perinatal care, care of older adults and people with reduced autonomy, and mental health nursing, preparing graduates to work in hospitals, community settings and residential care. Training combines theoretical coursework with clinical skill-building, including a high-fidelity clinical simulation laboratory using mannequins, and students may have the opportunity to complete an international internship. A dedicated support centre offers students personalized coaching for theoretical content, mathematics skills, study methods and profession-specific abilities. Graduates of the technical DEC can pursue a Bachelor of Nursing Science through a DEC-BAC pathway that shortens the university portion to two years instead of three. The program suits students interested in patient-centred care who want to combine clinical judgement grounded in scientific and technical knowledge with empathy and collaboration across medical and psychosocial teams. Admission Requirements: Prerequisites: Science - ST or ATS from 4th secondary plus STE or SE from 4th secondary (or Sciences physiques 436); and Chemistry from 5th secondary (you may instead take this Chemistry course at the Cégep during the program's first year).
