Trades - Apprenticeship in Gasfitter Apprenticeship

The Gasfitter Apprenticeship at Red Deer Polytechnic covers Year 1 of the trade, training students to install, test and service natural gas and propane systems, from residential furnaces to industrial boilers. Instruction covers workplace safety, rigging, tool and material handling, the science of combustion, technical drawing interpretation and metal fabrication. The year includes eight weeks of on-campus classroom instruction and a minimum of 1,560 hours of on-the-job training, delivered on-campus Monday to Friday. Students must achieve a weighted average of 65%, with no section under 50%, and a minimum grade of 70% on the AIT Provincial Exam. The full Gasfitter apprenticeship spans four 12-month periods; on completion of all periods, apprentices earn a Journeyperson Certificate and become eligible for the interprovincial Red Seal endorsement. The program suits students beginning a Gasfitter apprenticeship who need Year 1 classroom training delivered at RDP.
