The Sprinkler Systems Installer Apprenticeship at Red Deer Polytechnic is a four-period apprenticeship leading to journeyperson certification in Alberta's sprinkler systems installer trade. Students learn to read blueprints, fabricate and fit piping, and work with pressurized water systems used in fire protection. Coursework covers fire codes, safety standards, and inspection procedures for the sprinkler systems installed in commercial and industrial buildings, from underground mains to overhead sprinkler heads. The program is delivered full-time and on-campus, alternating each period with on-the-job work experience under Alberta's Apprenticeship and Industry Training system. Students may join a Provincial or Local Apprenticeship committee and can compete in Skills Canada provincial, national, and WorldSkills competitions. On completion, graduates receive a Journeyperson Certificate, granting legal authority to work in the trade, and an Education Credential recognizing completion of the diploma-level apprenticeship program.
