Overview
The Baccalauréat en écologie is a 90-credit bachelor's degree at Université de Sherbrooke's Faculté des sciences, leading to the degree of Bachelière or bachelier ès sciences. The programme trains specialists in the study of ecosystems and their components, covering ecosystem functioning, evolution, and conservation, with a curriculum combining theory and practice and extensive fieldwork across aquatic, forest, and urban environments. Students build a general foundation in biological sciences, gain modelling skills including statistics and programming, and develop knowledge of biodiversity across biological scales from genes to ecosystems, while learning to describe plant, animal, and microbial life processes and to work in scientific teams. The programme is offered under a regular study regime, full-time or part-time, or under a co-operative (work-study) full-time regime, with admission at the Fall term only, at the Sherbrooke main campus. It also gives access to an integrated bachelor's-master's pathway with the Maîtrise en biologie, subject to separate eligibility conditions.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must meet Université de Sherbrooke's general admission condition for 1st-cycle (undergraduate) programmes. Specific requirements: a DEC in Natural Sciences (200.B1), a DEC in Science, Literature and Art (700.A1), an International Baccalaureate diploma (200.Z1), or a DEC in Laboratory Techniques: Biotechnology (210.AA); or a DEC plus cell biology [0B01], general chemistry [0C01], solution chemistry [0C02], differential calculus [0M02/0PU2], integral calculus [0M03/0PU3], and two of mechanics [0P01], electricity and magnetism [0P02], or waves and modern physics [0P03]; or a DEC in biological or physical technologies (or equivalent) plus the same biology/chemistry/calculus courses and one of the physics courses above. Applicants holding a technical DEC should consult the university's DEC-to-bachelor's pathway conditions.
