BA/BS in German Studies

This German Studies programme establishes a foundation in linguistics and literary theory while raising German communication skills to C1-C2 level, examining phonetics, grammar, lexicology and pragmatics and drawing comparisons between German and Lithuanian. Literary study extends across German, Austrian and Swiss writing, set against the broader culture of German-speaking countries compared with Lithuanian culture. An internship, taken at the university or in placements such as translation bureaus, publishing houses or schools, builds basic skills in translation, research or teaching German as a foreign language. The major field carries at least 165 credits, including a thesis, with up to 60 credits of optional courses and the chance to add a minor field or a teaching qualification. Small seminar groups of around sixteen students use brainstorming, discussion and presentations, and assessment accumulates through essays, research papers and the final thesis defence.
